Giboron: A massive 2,492-carat diamond has been discovered in Botswana, believed to be the second largest diamond ever found, according to a mining company.
It is believed to be the largest stone discovered since the 3,106-carat Culinan diamond discovered in South Africa in 1905.
Canadian miner Lucara Diamond Corporation announced on Thursday that an ‘extraordinary’ diamond had been found intact at the company’s Kero mine.
The company called the diamond a “tremendous find” and called it “one of the largest uncut diamonds ever discovered”.
The company traced the diamond using Mega Diamond Recovery (MDR) X-ray Transmission (XRT) technology designed to identify and protect valuable and large diamonds.
“We are thrilled to have recovered this extraordinary 2,492-carat diamond,” Lucara President and CEO William Lamb said in a statement.
