Scientists managed to reveal the secret of ‘Screaming Mummy’ after a century

Cairo: After nearly a century, scientists have finally solved the terrifying mystery of an ancient Egyptian mummy that died screaming.

Known as the ‘Screaming Woman’, the mummy remains were discovered in Egypt in 1935 inside a tomb belonging to a royal architect’s family.

What made it different from normal mummies was the presence of all the organs in its body that are removed from other mummies after their death.

This aspect was quite surprising for the scientists. The opening of the mouth was initially thought to have been accidentally left open during the carelessness of mummification. However, a new scientific analysis has now provided a different answer.

According to Sahar Salim, a researcher at Cairo University, this is cadaveric spasm, an unusual form of muscle stiffness that occurs during a violent or highly stressful death. It means she died screaming in agony.
