Washington: NASA has announced that Boeing Starliner crew members Butch Wellmore and Sunny Williams, who have been stranded on the International Space Station since June, will not return to Earth until February.
In considering whether to allow them to return to Earth aboard their damaged Starliner craft or wait until the completion of the SpaceX Crew 9 Dragon mission to return to Earth in February, NASA’s Administrator Bill Nelson said the agency chose the latter option for safety reasons.
Butch Wellmore and Sunny will return to Earth next February with Crew 9, he said during a televised news conference at Houston’s Johnson Space Center.
He added that with the return of the crew, the damaged Starliner capsule, which is currently docked in the ISS, will be brought back to Earth unmanned.
