Darlington: Hina Robinson, from Darlington in the UK, who regularly parks her car at Fathoms Leisure Centre, was fined £11,000 (over Rs 30 lakh) for breaking the 5-minute ticketing rule.
According to media reports, the woman had also paid for a daily parking permit near Fathoms Leisure Center in Darlington, County Durham, but recently the management introduced a new rule in which 5 minutes is allowed. It was made mandatory to take a parking ticket inside.
The rule was introduced by the UK’s Excel Parking Services to reduce robberies and prevent drivers from parking their cars for free in the area to go to the nearest cinema.
Entry into the parking lot is monitored by cameras that record entry and exit times.
Since 2021, Hannah Robinson has been hit with 67 fines of around £170 each. The woman says that she always pays to park, but the new rule requires customers to buy a parking ticket within five minutes of arrival, which she was often unable to do.
