Beijing: A new study has found that garlic can help control cholesterol and blood sugar.

A team of Chinese scientists reviewed several previous studies on the effects of garlic on blood glucose and lipid (fat) metabolism.

Researchers used data from 29 trials to look at the effects of garlic on cholesterol, blood sugar, hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) and triglycerides.

One way to monitor these conditions is to look at blood levels. During a routine checkup, blood tests usually look at patients’ cholesterol, fasting blood glucose (the amount of glucose in the body after 8 to 12 hours), HbA1c, and triglycerides.

With the help of the results of these tests, the doctors arrive at whether or not the patient is close to developing conditions like diabetes or high cholesterol.

In the latest study, researchers tried to find out if garlic can have effects on lipid and blood glucose levels.

The analysis revealed significant correlations between garlic consumption and improvement in various metabolic indicators.

Garlic supplementation has been shown to reduce fasting glucose, HbA1c, total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol.

Additionally, consumption of garlic has been shown to increase the amount of beneficial cholesterol.
