Kuala Lumpur: A young man in Malaysia has received an eye transplant after his eye was damaged by excessive exposure to dust as a child.

According to media reports, 21-year-old Malaysian Muhammad Zubeidi has spent most of his life rubbing his eyes excessively because he suffered from an allergic disease since he was fifty-five.

Muhammad Zubeidi used to rub his eyes until they were red due to allergies, but this had serious consequences in his youth.

At the age of 15, he started experiencing blurred vision in his right eye and the condition worsened over time. Finally he went to a doctor where he was told that the cornea of the eye had been damaged due to constant eye rubbing and a new cornea transplant was required.

In a transplant, the damaged cornea is removed and replaced with a new cornea. The young man was put under general anesthesia to avoid pain. The doctor told him that he would be able to open his eyes in a couple of months but it would take years to fully recover.
