Catalonia: Maria Branias Moreira, the world’s oldest woman, turned 117 years old today.

Born in San Francisco on March 4, 1907, the woman has lived in Spain since she was 8 years old. She has been living here in a nursing home for the past 23 years.

After the death of French nun Lucile Rendon in January last year at the age of 118, Maria Branias became the world’s oldest living person.

Interestingly, Maria is quite active on social media website X and posts regularly with the help of other people.

He wrote in a post today: “Good morning, world. Today I am 117 years old. “

Staff at the nursing home say Maria is doing incredibly well with her health and has no physical or mental problems other than hearing difficulties and mobility issues.

Maria’s extraordinary health at such an age has forced scientists to study her body.

Scientist Manuel Estelar told Spanish broadcaster ABC that Maria’s head was completely illuminated. She remembers impressively vividly from when she was just four years old and has no heart disease that is common in older people.

It should be noted that several members of Maria’s family are over 90 years old.

On the other hand, Maria has expressed her willingness to cooperate with experts who research about longevity.

Researchers have collected samples of Maria’s saliva, blood and urine, which they will compare with samples from her 80-year-old daughter.

Scientists hope that studying Maria’s genes will help develop drugs that can fight diseases associated with aging.

Maria has lived through the 1918 pandemic, two world wars and the Spanish Civil War. She was married in 1931 to a Spanish doctor, John Moret, with whom she had three children.

Maria’s husband died in 1976, Maria’s only son died in a tragic tractor accident at the age of 86.

She now has two daughters, 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Maria is now the 12th oldest confirmed person in history and will move into fifth place if she reaches her 118th birthday next year.

The oldest living person ever recorded was Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment, who lived to 122 years and 164 days.
