California: The maker of Lego has called on US police to stop hiding the faces of criminals in custody with its toy.

According to media reports, the Lego company has asked the Riverside County Police Department in the US to stop using digitally added Lego heads to hide the faces of suspects.

The company’s demand comes after the police department posted a photo on social media this week of the suspects whose faces were covered with Lego heads.

The police department said in its justification that it did so to comply with the new state law. The California Legislature passed Assembly Bill 1475 in 2021, which would have prohibited local law enforcement agencies from releasing facial images of suspects involved in non-violent crimes.

After the law was passed, police departments recently began using Photoshop to hide the faces of suspects with Lego heads.

After these altered photos went viral on social media, the Lego company demanded that the department stop using Lego in its photos. Police Lt. Jeremy Durant confirmed the news, saying the department has fully cooperated with the company’s demands.
