Microplastics in Clogged Arteries Raise Risk of Death, Research

Rome: A new study has revealed that the presence of microplastics in clogged arteries increases the risk of heart disease and death.

According to media reports, a study conducted by Italian researchers published in the New England Journal of Medicine found microplastics in clogged arteries.

The study included 257 participants who had their arteries unblocked between 2019 and 2020. Of these, 150 participants were found to be the most commonly used plastic in the world, polyethylene.

The researchers followed the participants for 34 months, after which they finally found that microplastics remained in the arteries despite unclogging them, resulting in a nearly five-fold increase in the risk of heart attack, stroke and, in extreme cases, death. It was multiplied.
