Sumatra: Floods in Indonesia caused widespread destruction during which 18 people were killed and many injured in various incidents while 5 people are missing.

According to the World News Agency, the continuous rains in the Indonesian island of Sumatra turned into a flood, the flood waters entered the residential areas and destroyed everything in its path.

Landslides also occurred due to rains and floods in which more than 5 houses were buried. 12 bodies were recovered from the debris of the houses and 7 were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Another 6 people were pulled out safely from the wreckage while 5 are still missing whose hopes of being found alive are fading. Relief operations are facing difficulties due to continuous rains and bad weather.

Several people were swept away in the floods while 6 deaths were also reported due to falling trees and hoardings, taking the total death toll to 18, with more than 10 people admitted to the intensive care ward.

The meteorological department has predicted that the rains will continue for two more days, while the death toll is also expected to increase.
