New Delhi: Claiming that the money will be used for defense purposes, India has demanded strict monitoring of Pakistan’s debt from the IMF.

A $3 billion IMF program for Pakistan will expire in April, after which Pakistan will need another IMF loan program to repay the interest on the loans.

According to the report of an Indian newspaper, “The Hindu”, a review meeting was held in the IMF for the implementation of the ongoing three billion dollar program of Pakistan, in which the representative of India, Krishnamurtisubramaniam, took a tough stand.

He said that it should be ensured that the IMF loan is not used for defense expenditure. India also alleged that the money could be used to invest in terrorism or pay off loans to other countries (China, Saudi Arabia).

India has recently abstained from voting on debt programs for Pakistan and did not vote in July.
