London: A study has shown that loss of vision in some genetic diseases may be caused by gut bacteria and the problem can be treated with the help of antibiotic drugs.

In a study on mice, gut bacteria were found in the affected part of the eye that had lost vision due to a specific genetic mutation.

According to the researchers, the findings suggest that genetic mutations may slow down the body’s immune system, allowing harmful bacteria to reach the eyes and cause vision loss.

The gut contains trillions of bacteria, many of which are essential for healthy digestion. However, they can also be potentially harmful.

Research co-author Professor Richard Lee said the study revealed an unexpected connection between the stomach and the eye that could be a possible cause of vision loss in some patients.

They said these findings could lead to major changes in the treatment of CRB1-related eye diseases.

Professor Richard Lee said the researchers hope to continue this research into randomized trials to confirm whether it is indeed causing blindness in people and whether treatments targeting these bacteria could lead to vision loss. Can prevent from going or not.
