Tel Aviv: Israeli media have claimed that US-brokered talks between Hamas and Israel have rekindled hopes for progress on a Gaza ceasefire and prisoner exchange.

The Israeli newspaper “Haartz” has revealed, citing informed sources, that there has been progress in the communications of the director of the American agency “CIA” William Burns with the leadership of Hamas and Israel.

Brett McGurk, adviser on Middle East affairs of US President Joe Biden, has also played an important role in these contacts of the CIA director.

It should be noted that a delegation of Hamas under the leadership of Ismail Haniyeh is currently on a visit to Egypt and held talks with top intelligence officials there.

McGurk will also visit Egypt today to discuss the prisoner file and the expected Israeli attack on the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah.

The United States, Qatar, Jordan and Egypt are also playing an important role for the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, but these negotiations are repeatedly stalled.

Since then, it was thought that a ceasefire might not be possible before the war reaches a final conclusion, but the American CIA has created a hope again.

Meanwhile, Israel has threatened a major military operation in Rafah, where millions of Palestinians have taken refuge, for the immediate release of all its hostages.

It should be remembered that in the ongoing Hamas-Israel war since October 7, there was a one-week ceasefire in November last year, during which Hamas released 100 Israeli hostages, in return for which Israel released about 300 Palestinian prisoners.

Hamas currently holds 132 Israeli hostages, 29 of whom are believed to have been killed in action.
