This is tantamount to curtailing religious freedom and preventing the implementation of Sharia, Muslim leaders

Message: As part of another anti-Muslim policy, the Modi government abolished the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Registration Act 1935 in the Indian state of Assam.

According to Indian media, the government of Assam, after the implementation of uniform civil code across India by the Modi government, has abolished the registration system of Muslim marriage and divorce in its state for years.

The Assam government says that the repeal of the act and the implementation of a uniform civil code will help curb child marriages in the state.

On the other hand, Muslim members of assembly and social activists have strongly condemned this decision of the Assam government and said that this move is tantamount to robbing Muslims of their religious freedom and preventing them from implementing their Sharia law.
