New Delhi: The Allahabad High Court has dismissed the mosque committee’s plea against the decision to allow worship in one of the four basements of the historic Gianavapi Masjid.

According to Indian media, in the district court of Varanasi, the request of the mosque committee was heard against the permission of the puja in the Gyanvapi mosque, in which Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal gave the decision that the puja should continue in the Vyas basement of the mosque.

The mosque committee filed the petition against a court order in which Shailendra Kumar Pathak, a Hindu citizen, claimed that his maternal grandfather, Somnath Vyas, had been worshiping in the basement of the Gianavapi mosque till December 1993.

The mosque has 4 basements, one of which is claimed by the family of Somnath Vyas. Shailendra Kumar had requested the court that as a hereditary priest he should be allowed to enter the basement and perform puja.

On which the court allowed them to go to the basement of the mosque and worship.

However, now the Masjid Committee had approached the Supreme Court and submitted that there was no idol in the basement, so there was no question of worshiping there till 1993.

The lawyers of the mosque committee had further said that Shailendra Kumar had obtained permission for worship from the local court by misrepresentation. Therefore, the Hon’ble Court should quash this order.

However, the Supreme Court refused to entertain the order of the Varanasi District Court and directed the mosque committee to approach the High Court.

It should be noted that two years ago, when an ancient fountain was found in the ablution room of the same mosque, the extremists raised a storm saying that it is their holy Shivling, which proves that the mosque is a temple.

The place where this self-made Shivling was found, Hindus also tried to enter and perform the pooja pot and the matter reached Kot Kachhari where the ablution room was also sealed in 2022 on the order of the Supreme Court.

Later, the Hindu side now requested the court to conduct an archaeological survey of the mosque, which was rejected by the Allahabad High Court last month.
