Washington: The Committee to Protect Journalists says that 72 of the 99 journalists killed worldwide last year were Palestinians.

According to the World News Agency, the number of journalists killed during the coverage of the Hamas-Israeli war, which began in October last year, broke the decade’s record.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) report claims that 99 journalists were killed in various incidents around the world in 2023, of which 77 were killed in Gaza in the last three months of the year.

The CPJ report says as many journalists were killed in the first three months of the Israel-Gaza war (October to December 2023) as were killed in the entire year.

The report states that if there were not so many deaths of journalists in Gaza in the last 3 months of the year 2023, the number of deaths of reporters worldwide would have decreased year by year.

According to the CPJ report, a total of 77 journalists were killed in Gaza last year while performing their duties, including 72 Palestinians, 3 Lebanese and 2 Israelis.

According to the report, about 75 percent of the journalists killed worldwide were Palestinians. The 99 reporters killed in 2023 is the highest number since 2015 and a 44 percent increase from 2022.
