Eight former Indian Navy officers, including two Indian Navy commanders, may face death penalty for spying for Israel in Qatar.

Eight indian navy top officers retired, including the Indian Navy’s top military award-winning commander Parinda Tiwari, were working at Al-Zahra Global Technologies and Consultancy Services in Qatar, The Tribune reported.

The eight former Indian Navy officers were detained by Qatar’s State Security Bureau in August last year. Of the eight navy personnel arrested, two were commanders.

The arrest of these former policemen in Qatar was unknown to the Modi government. Unaware, the Indian Ministry of Defence and External Affairs came to know about the arrest through a tweet by the wife of one of the detainees.

Qatar’s intelligence agency tracked digital messages from these officials, in which important national secrets were revealed to Israel. These eight former Indian Navy soldiers are being held in Qatar on suspicion of spying for Israel.

According to an investigation by Qatar’s investigative agency, these officials provided details of Qatar’s secret program to buy modern submarines from Italy to Israel.

The head of Qatar’s international military operations and the chief executive officer of a private defense company were also arrested in this charge and all eight officers of the Indian Navy were also employed, in the same company aswell.

Former Indian Navy officers convicted of spying for Israel will face trial on May 3, with the accused facing the death penalty.
